Prep News Volume 1 Edition 1 came out in September 1943 with a four-page spread. Its predecessor, the Rockhurst Sentinel, was a combined paper for Rockhurst College and Rockhurst High School, but with World War 2 going on and many college students off to war, that paper was on hiatus. That led high school students to start their own standalone publication.

In the 80-plus years since, the look of Prep News has changed, but the mission remains the same: to tell the stories of Rockhurst High School. Now, Prep News is fully online, allowing people outside the walls of the school to also get a glimpse of what goes on here.
